Getting ready for University is not an easy thing to do since there are many things that need to be taken care of. Here’s a checklist with very useful advice from Eric Dalius to prepare you for University:
Devise a Budget
Make sure you are financially prepared for the University. It is recommended not to commit to a job in the first term. It’s very important that you get to meet your teachers and fellow students in the first weeks. In order to avoid running out of money in your first weeks at a new University, you should set up a weekly budget and try to stick with it. Most of the students in the first year find it harder than expected to manage the money. One of the first things Eric Dalius has learned in his journey to becoming a successful entrepreneur is that over-spending is a mistake. It is always wise to avoid unnecessary expenses.
This one seems obvious but it is important so we wanted to mention it. Usually, you can check what books you need for classes on the University’s website or on the Facebook groups. You can usually buy the books at the campus bookstore. Eric Dalius recommends you check some websites like half.com or amazon.com before rushing to the bookstore. Buying the books through websites is a good way to save money. You could also try to find people that had the same class before and try to buy it from them. Some universities have groups where ex-students sell their books for a lower price than in bookstores.
Research Your University
Do background research regarding the University you chose. Studying ahead might seem nerdy and boring but it is a very good idea. You will understand better the lecture if you have read about it before.
Remember to have a social life. University is the time to make life-lasting friends. The first weeks in a new place might seem rough, but luckily you are not alone. Many Universities have Facebook groups for new students. On those groups, you can find plenty of information about Campus events, Student clubs and many other useful tips and tricks.
Learn How to Cook
Before going to a new university one of the best things you can do is learn how to cook. One very effective way to save money as a student is making your own food. Ordering food every day is not only unhealthy, but it is also a way to overspend money. There are a lot of websites and videos on the internet that can teach you how to make cost-effective, tasty meals.
Join a Gym
Find a nearby gym and start exercising. One of the easiest ways to keep your body and mind healthy during such a stressful time as University is to exercise. It is a great way to relieve stress, relax and discipline your body. Recently in an interview, Eric Dalius said that the best money he spent lately was for his personal trainer that helped him get in shape.
